FC Emmen have announced that Shani Tarashaj’s loan from Everton has been cancelled.
The Swiss international joined the Dutch side last summer on a two-year deal but they have today confirmed it has been brought to a premature end.
Everton helped make the move possible by extending Tarashaj’s contract at Goodison by an extra year which helped Emmen afford the player’s remaining wages over a two-year period.
A statement from Emmen read: "For both parties his time in Emmen went differently than hoped for, due to injuries, the five-time international of Switzerland has never been able to show his talent with the first team at De Oude Meerdijk.
"Shani got no further than a few minutes in FC Emmen 2, as he managed to score in the match against Cambuur 2 last season.
"We wish Shani the best of luck in the rest of his career.
The Blues signed Tarashaj in January 2016 in a deal worth around £3m but he failed to make an impression with the first-team and has not played for the club at a senior level.
The 25-year-old has twice rejoined former club Grasshoppers on loan while at Everton and also spent time with Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany.
He featured in Euro 2016 for Switzerland.
