Shanghai Hotel Marked as Medium Risk in New Covid Outbreak

What’s new: Shanghai raised the Covid-19 risk level of a hotel in the city’s downtown Huangpu district to medium on Friday after the health authorities reported six local confirmed cases.

Salvo Hotel Shanghai, where two of the newly infected people are employed and one was staying, has become the city’s second location to be designated medium-risk in two days.

Local health officials have traced 74 close contacts of the confirmed cases, all now undergoing screening in quarantine, the Shanghai Health Commission said at a meeting on Friday.

The eastern metropolis reported three locally-transmitted coronavirus cases on Thursday, ending its two-month streak of zero infections.

The backgrounds: The new cases in Shanghai come as China sees a resurgence of coronavirus infections across several regions.

Local health authorities have ramped up stringent measures to stamp out the outbreaks. China’s capital Beijing imposed a partial lockdown on Wednesday after logging dozen of new confirmed cases, including two that carry the more contagious strain of the coronavirus first found in the U.K.

On Friday, China had a total of 1,674 local confirmed cases and 929 asymptomatic cases in quarantine.
