A 25-year-old man has been charged with the murder of Shane Whitla in Lurgan last week.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "Major Investigation Team Detectives investigating the murder of 39-year-old Shane Whitla in Lurgan on Thursday, January 12, have charged a 25-year-old man with murder.

"He is expected to appear before Craigavon Magistrates’ Court tomorrow, Friday January 20."

A short time earlier, police said a 29-year-old man was arrested following the search of a house in the Lurgan area on Thursday evening.

The man has been taken to Antrim Serious Crime suite where he remains in custody for further questioning.

Earlier on Thursday, police were granted an extension of 27 hours for the further detention of a 28-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of murder on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, police released CCTV of two gunmen in an appeal for information as what the PSNI have described as a “cowardly and despicable attack”.

Detectives say they believe Shane was shot in an alley off Woodville Street in the Co Armagh town before staggering to Lord Lurgan Park where he died.

Police say information, including photos, CCTV and dash cam footage, can also be provided to police through the Major Incident Public Portal at https://mipp.police.uk/operation/PSNI23S01-PO1.
