Australian cricket commentator, coach and former player Shane Warne has tested positive for COVID-19.

The 51-year-old is coaching the Lord's-based London Spirit in England's new limited overs competition The Hundred.

The club issued a statement overnight revealing the result.

"London Spirit men's head coach Shane Warne will be absent from today's match against Southern Brave at Lord's," the statement read.

"After feeling unwell this morning, Shane returned a positive lateral flow test and will isolate from the squad and support staff whilst he awaits PCR results.

"A second member of the team management is self-isolating after also returning a positive test. No players have been impacted."

Last week, Warne encouraged others to get vaccinated and for COVID-19 lockdown restrictions to lift.

"I think it's just a matter of getting on with it, get your double vax and get on with it and learn to live with it," he told Sky News Australia.

"No one over here seems to want to get locked down again. No one likes the lockdown.

What are the Delta and Delta Plus COVID-19 variants?

"They just said 'enough's enough, everyone go and get double jabbed' and they're learning to live with it."

Southern Brave beat Warne's London Spirit by four runs in the match at Lord's this morning.

The Hundred is a new 100-ball cricket variant being promoted by the England and Wales Cricket Board.
