"Until this trip I’d never really cancelled a show. If there was a way of doing this I would but I don’t think I could talk for five mins.

"I was so excited about these shows. Washington tonight and New York had literally just sold out. I’m beyond gutted. Every US show cancelled will now take place in October and ticket holders will be notified ASAP.

"Tag anyone you know that was going."

In a video message that he also posted on Twitter, the Holywood man added: "I've managed to somehow never had to do one of these videos before up until now.

"I've just been to a doctor in Washington, I've got laryngitis. I'm going to have to postpone Washington, New York and the Bronx shows until October with the rest of the US dates.

"I would hate to do five minutes of the show and then have to just stop talking and give you a s*** night. So, October, we'll do it again.

"I feel like s*** physically and for having to do this but hopefully you can come then and I'll just keep drinking tea in the meantime. Cheers."
