He revealed to Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes he was not nervous for his mum's stint on CBB, but admitted he was "really worried" about how his dad would fare on I'm a Celeb.

"He told me the day before it was going to break in the press, I had been asking him, 'Dad, what are you doing for work?'

"Then he dropped this bombshell and I was genuinely gobsmacked.

Beverley Callard's operation went wrong, leaving her needing a hip replacement and "seriously ill" (ITV)

"He can say stupid things sometimes, I didn't worry about my mum at all, but with my dad I think he will be brilliant, but I worry."

Meanwhile, Corrie star Beverley Callard's friend, actor, Charlie Lawson spoke about her gruelling health battle.

He said: "Someone told me on social media she was really poorly a few months ago, so I rang her up and said, 'Apparently you're nearly dead'.

"She said she was fine, she was hoping to go into the jungle but it was going to be largely down to her specialists.

"As you know she had some terrible problems with her hip post-surgery, you could make a whole programme about that.

"But that was a few months ago and she is loads better now, and I heard a month ago she was going in so fair play to her.

"Was it a hip replacement she had?" asked Eamonn.

"It ended up being that, but she went in for something fairly trivial," Charlie replied.

"But it ended up being that, it's not what it was supposed to be, and the poor wee lamb ended up in a serious way, but she is a tough cookie, and she has bounced back."

He also said Bev asked him to be her "go-to famous friend" on the show, though it is yet unclear what challenge this might crop up in .
