Shane Lowry to plan out rest of the season after picking up another top 10 in Harbour Town

Shane Lowry is taking two weeks off to devise his plan of attack for the rest of the season after picking up a second top 10 finish in five PGA Tour events on Sunday night.

Lowry rolled in 24 and 39-foot birdie putts over his last five holes on his way to a final round 66 yesterday that secured him joint ninth place in the RBC Heritage tournament at Harbour Town Golf Links that was won by veteran Stewart Cink.

The Offaly man said it was "nice" to take a top 10 into his fortnight break, although he was left with some regrets after a third round 72 saw him lose vital ground.

"Yeah look, I'm pretty happy with it, but I'm going to go away and think what-if with this week," Lowry said.

"The golf course probably at its easiest on Saturday, and I just didn't take advantage of it.

"I'm taking two weeks off. I'm probably going to play Wells Fargo and then the PGA. That's kind of what I'm thinking, but I don't really know.

"I just did my schedule at the start of the year up until now, and we said we'd kind of reassess and see where we are and see what we need to play going forward."

Lowry came into the tournament on the back of his best finish to date in the Masters, in joint 21st.

He had previously come third at Harbour Town in 2019 and, after his top 10 placing in The Players, it was important for Lowry to back up his Ryder Cup hopes by cementing his recent good form with another good finish at the Hilton Head venue.

But he admitted that coming so quickly after Augusta, the week is about managing energy levels.

"I've done OK here in the past. I like coming here after the Masters because I feel like it's such a chill week," said the 34-year-old.

"I feel like the Masters is so stressful that you come down here, and I bring my family and it's just nice.

"It's a nice place to come, a nice place to play golf, and it's a lovely golf course. I would argue that's probably one of the best stops on Tour.

"I'm always going to come here, but yeah, the Masters does take a lot out of you, and I didn't practice much this week.

"I played nine holes on Tuesday, and I did about an hour on Wednesday, and I was kind of just resting up as much as I could.

"I made plenty of birdies this week. I made probably enough birdies to win the tournament, but I just kind of made too many mistakes on Thursday and Saturday."
