Shane Lowry supporting 20x20 campaign at this year's Irish Open

Shane Lowry has thrown his support behind the 20x20 campaign by wearing its logo on his shirts at this week's Irish Open.

The reigning Open champion hightailed it from the US Open in New York to be at Galgorm Castle for the event he famously won as an amateur in 2009.

And the Offaly man will be sporting a logo from a campaign close to his heart on the parkland course.

Lowry said: “Sport has always been something special for me. Not only has it given me a livelihood, but it has also given me tremendous pleasure both when playing it and watching it.

"No matter what my daughter, Iris does in the future, I hope that she gets the same enjoyment from sport that I have. I want her to have role models, and I want more than anything for her to have the same opportunities that boys would have”.

He added: "When Iris was born that kinda gave me a new lease of life.

"I'm not going to be great every day, but the one thing I'm going to do is I'm going to get up every morning and try to be the best golfer, the best father and the best husband I can be."

Lowry will wear the 20×20 logo in place of his usual Immedis logo, and CEO of Immedis, Ruairi Kelleher added:“I am extremely proud to be able to lend our voice to the 20×20 movement and I hope it will raise awareness of this incredibly important movement.

"As a father of a daughter, it is something I am extremely passionate about and, while our action is very simple, we hope that the impact can leave a significant legacy”.
