Shane Lowry reveals what he said to Rory McIlroy before Ryder Cup singles

Shane Lowry has reveal what he said to Rory McIlroy ahead of his Ryder Cup singles match on Sunday.

McIlroy lost three of his matches prior to Sunday's singles but bounced back with an impressive win over Olympic gold medal winner Xander Schauffele

And fellow Irishman Shane Lowry revealed he had a pep talk with McIlroy prior to his Sunday singles match.

As reported in the Irish Independent, Lowry said: "I said to Rory McIlroy before we went out this morning. ‘You’re Rory f**king McIlroy. You’re already one of the best players of all time, and you’re 32. Go and show it today.’ And he did."

McIlroy impressed in his 3&2 win over the American and Lowry's words were a throwback to when McIlroy's former Caddie JP Fitzgerald

McIlroy split with his ex-caddie in 2017 but the Down man said at the Open Championship in Birkdale in 2017 that Fitzgerald inspired him to bounce back from his opening round disaster.

"He said at the time: JP, he reminded me who I was, basically. He said, ‘You’re Rory McIlroy, what the fuck are you doing?’ I said, ‘Yeah’. At that point I mumbled and said, ‘Whatever.’

"But it did, it helped. It definitely helped. It kept me positive. So he did a great job.”
