Shane Lowry brings Claret Jug to Empire State Building as he returns to action in the US this week

Open hero Shane Lowry brought the Claret Jug to the iconic Empire State Building in New York yesterday as his lap of honour continues.

The Offaly star has enjoyed time off after his Royal Portrush triumph last month as he partied in pubs, celebrated with friends and family in Clara and even enjoyed a standing ovation at Croke Park at an All-Ireland hurling semi-final.

And Lowry isn't finished yet as he headed across the Atlantic to make his return to the game at this week's Northern Trust tournament.

Stopping in New York, Lowry brought the Claret Jug to the iconic Empire State Building and even made an appearance on ESPN's daily 'Get Up' show.

Despite taking home the last major of the year, Lowry is a massive 55/1 outsider to taste success again in his return - with Rory McIlroy among favourites such as Brooks Koepka and Jon Rahm.

It comes as Irish mirror golf columnist Gary Murphy says that the Clara man could repeat his success in the future if he sticks to his game.

Murphy said: "The secret for Shane is to stay true to his game and stick to what he believes works best for him. He has kept his game simple throughout his career, so why change now?

"He doesn’t have to play like an Open Champion, he has to play like Shane Lowry.

"That will be a challenge, but if he aims to be the best version of himself he can be, he has the game to stay at the top of the sport.

"There will be a few bumps along the way, but if he keeps faith in his game and outlook on life, more success will follow.

"In life, some wonder how to reach the next peak. Others just do it.

"Lowry is a doer."
