Shane Lowry admits he has a 'great bit of confidence' heading into US Open

Shane Lowry admits that his Canada dry run has given him a "great bit of confidence" heading into the US Open this week.

Lowry finished joint second behind Rory McIlroy at the Canadian Open after making a late decision to add the Toronto tournament to his schedule.

And it proved the right one for the Offaly man, who has moved up to 32nd in the world rankings and into 65th from 119th in the Fed Ex Cup standings.

"I think I more or less got my (PGA Tour) card back," said Lowry, a former US Open runner-up. "I think I might have won the second tournament!

"I don't know what golf Rory is playing, but it was just incredible. Yeah, very happy the way I played. Give myself a great bit of confidence going into next week.

"It's a tough golf course next week. It's US Open. I'm excited to be going there, and, yeah, I'm playing OK, so I'm happy.

"I stepped on the first tee on Tuesday morning when I went out to play and I loved it straightaway.

"I've been happy the way my season has been going even before this week".
