Shane Jackson was 15 when he was stabbed 55 times by pal Billie Dunwoodie, also 15.
During the ferocious assault, the Newcastle schoolboy suffered 33 wounds to the back of his neck and the blade was plunged into his spinal cord three times.
Dunwoodie, who was already an alcoholic, said he could hardly remember what he had done during the attack, which happened in Shane's bedroom at his Throckley home.
But he pleaded guilty to Shane’s murder at Newcastle Crown Court and was detained behind bars indefinitely, with a minimum of 12 years, in January 2008.
