Shane Duffy shares disgusting sectarian messages sent by Rangers fan

Shane Duffy has shared a photo showing disgusting, sectarian messages sent to him by a Rangers fan.

The vile troll called the Republic of Ireland international a fenian b****** and also sent a sick message about Duffy's late dad, who passed away last year.

The abuse was sent to Duffy after Celtic's 1-0 loss to Ross County on Sunday night.

Sharing a screenshot of the messages on Instagram, the defender said: "There's abuse which is fine but surely there's a limit nah."

One of the sick messages read: "Yous are s*** you fenian ugly b******."

Another said: "Ur f***ing s****u c***."

The final message was a disgusting taunt about Duffy's dad Brian, who passed away at the age of just 53 last May.

Duffy described his father as his 'hero' and 'idol' in an emotional tribute following Brian's death.

The abuse comes just days after James McClean opened up on some of the disgusting messages he has received.

Speaking last Wednesday, the Stoke City player told Off The Ball:  “We shouldn't be made to feel inferior or to be ashamed of being Irish.

“That message (to his brother) was from a kid and you think ‘wow’. Hate shouldn't be in you at that age. Where does a kid learn that?

"Social media and society is a dangerous place. It's just madness. That kind of hate shouldn't be in you at that age. He looks about 13 or 14."It's unacceptable.”

McClean has been subjected to a decade of anti-Irish abuse and has regularly hit out at the lack of action taken by authorities.

He feels the tide is slowly turning after receiving support from club-mates, international team-mates, the FAI, the English PFA and his club Stoke City.

Erin McClean, his wife, issued her own statement last week in which she opened up on the considerable stress she and her children are under because of the death threats.

Stoke star McClean said: “Maybe she's just had enough. It's got to the stage where our kids are getting older, they’re starting to ask questions.

“Maybe that was the final straw for Erin. Maybe she is genuinely worried that someone might carry out these threats.”
