Shane Duffy set to make Celtic debut against Ross County on Saturday

Shane Duffy is set to make his Celtic debut against Ross County on Saturday.

The Republic of Ireland defender joined the Scottish champions last week on a season-long loan from Brighton.

Neil Lennon has confirmed that Duffy will go straight into the Hoops squad for the game at Dingwall.

The Celtic boss said: “Shane will go straight into the squad. It’s a great bit of business by the club and great for the supporters.

“We’ve got a quality player that understands the ethos of the club and it’s important to have players like that in the dressing room.”

The Derry native will be thinking of his late dad when he makes his debut.

Speaking earlier this week,  Duffy said:  "I lost my dad recently who was a proud Irish man. He always dreamed about me playing for Celtic.

"My dad will be in the back of my mind when I go out onto the pitch.

"But I’m a professional. I need to go out and do my job and I’m sure that will make my mum, my family and fans proud of me.

"My first thoughts are to go out and do it for the club, the manager and my team-mates. That’s the important thing for me."

He added: "It's a different challenge completely coming here. The pressure of winning every game and winning trophies is something different for me.

"I did (have offers from clubs in the Premier League) but I had to sit down and think about it. But as soon as I got the call to say the deal can be done here then there was only one place I wanted to go.

"I'm in a difficult stage in my career in that I haven't played a lot over the last year.

"I had to make the right choice but I feel I'm at a good age to come here. Playing for Celtic is something I've wanted to do my whole career. I wanted to come here when I was at a good age where I can be successful. I'm delighted with the decision for me.

"It's huge for me, this is a huge club. Career-wise, that will be decided next season but this season the focus is here. It's down to me to perform week in, week out and win trophies for this club. That's what I'm here to do."
