Shane Duffy set for Celtic stay as Brighton boss opens up defender's 'challenging situation'

Brighton boss Graham Potter says Shane Duffy's Celtic loan will not be cut short in the January window.

The defender has struggled to find form since his move to Parkhead and with Neil Lennon 's side leaking goals there had been suggestions he could return to his parent club next month.

The Republic of Ireland international has been replaced by midfielder Nir Bitton in the Celtic backline in recent weeks but Seagulls gaffer Potter believes Duffy can turn his season around.

He has shutdown any talk of a return to The Amex before the end of the campaign at his press conference today.

Head coach Potter said today to The Argus : “It’s a season-long loan, that’s how it has been from the start, that’s how we see it.

“In the season you’re going to get ups and downs.

“It’s a bit of a challenging situation but, knowing Shane, he is a fighter and he’s a good character.

“He will come through and has something to prove.

“I am sure he will get back to being the player he will want to be and everyone knows he can be.”
