Shane Duffy set for Celtic as Brighton centre-back nears emotional move to boyhood heroes

Celtic have won the race for Brighton defender Shane Duffy, it's reported, as the Irishman gets set for an emotional move to his boyhood club.

The Premiership champions are looking to reinforce at the back, and manager Neil Lennon confirmed preliminary talks with Duffy.

However, Celtic faced stiff competition from Premier League sides West Ham and West Brom who could tempt the Seagulls with a superior financial package.

The defender gave his priority to the club he grew up supporting though, and Record Sport understands that the Parkhead club are on the verge of sealing a deal.

Duffy has made clear he wants to move to Glasgow, and is set to be in the city on Tuesday to iron out the final details on a one-year loan deal.

It's thought Celtic will pay a £2million fee to take the 28-year-old on loan, and will also take on a significant chunk of his wages.

Lennon has confirmed that new signings are in the pipeline.

Asked if there will be new arrivals he said: "I think so, yeah.

"I don't know how many but hopefully there will be one or two new faces coming in."

Celtic have also been linked with Omar Colley of Sampdoria but look to be on the verge of a deal for their top priority.
