Shane Duffy sends emotional message to Celtic fans following termination of loan

Shane Duffy has sent an emotional message to the Celtic support following the termination of his season-long loan deal at Parkhead.

The Republic of Ireland captain was signed amidst great fanfare last summer in a deal thought to be worth around £3 million but to say he's failed to live up to expectations would be something of an understatement.

Duffy has been plagued by a lack of form and several injuries ever since he arrived in Glasgow, and he hasn't been seen playing for the Hoops since the 2-1 victory over St. Johnstone on February 14.

With the 29-year-old unable to even get onto the bench under interim manager John Kennedy, the decision was taken earlier this week to send him back to his parent club Brighton, and the centre-back has expressed his thoughts on the doomed transfer via his Instagram account.

Earlier today, Duffy wrote to his 107,000 followers saying: "Grateful for the opportunity to get the chance to play for a club that many dream about doing.

"Thanks to the supporters and the players for helping me through a tough year on and off the field.

"Not many know what goes on behind the scenes.

"Time to hit restart button and get myself sorted. Celtic Football Club will always have a place in my heart."
