Shane Duffy's Celtic press conference in full as Hoops new boy makes Rangers derby admission

Celtic new boy Shane Duffy has revealed Bobo Balde was his hero growing up when watching Hoops teams.

And he's also desperate to play against Rangers next month after admitting he was never lucky enough to make it to a derby game during his years of supporting the club.

He did travel over regularly from Derry to watch his boyhood heroes but when his own career took over it meant it was next to impossible to get tickets for the big one.

Duffy played under Alan Stubbs when the ex-Celtic defender was reserves boss at Everton and he was one of a number of people singled out by the big centre back when asked about his Hoops heroes.

He said: "Big Bobo! Big Bobo. I’ve followed Celtic all my life and I was lucky enough to get managed by Alan Stubbs and I used to ask him questions every day about it, probably did his head in.

"There’s been loads over the years, the years of Henrik and all sorts. Martin O'Neill's team, he gave me my debut for Ireland and he was a successful when he was here so there’s been loads."

Duffy is hoping he'll get to savour an Old Firm game next month but has also conceded he has a tough job forcing his way into the team.

Many expect him to go straight in after joining on loan from Brighton but he insists he's here to work hard for his place and learn from Kris Ajer and Christopher Jullien.

"It’s a huge game, I’ve never had the opportunity to go to one yet so my first Old Firm will be me playing in one hopefully.

"There’s a lot of games before that so I’ve got to focus and get my fitness to where I want to be at and my sharpness so I can perform well in games.

"I’m really excited to play and learn from them (Ajer and Jullien). They’re two top players in my opinion. Obviously I watch them closely because I watch Celtic and I’m really excited. It’s up to me to try and push them and force my way into the squad.

"They’ve got a great relationship together and it’s a tough one but I like the competition, I like pushing myself and I like trying to improve other players as well. Hopefully I can learn off them."
