Shane Duffy provides fresh Celtic transfer hope as he slaps down 'clueless' mate over West Ham tip

In-demand Shane Duffy has moved to clear up speculation that he has his heart set on a switch to West Ham.

The 28-year-old Brighton defender is expected to depart the Seagulls this summer and boyhood heroes Celtic are keen on taking him to the Premiership.

But Duffy's best pal Sean Roddy sparked fears among the Hoops supporter when he replied to a Hammers fan on Instagram and stated the Republic of Ireland standout "wanted" a switch to the London Stadium.

That led to the sports management consultant later insisting nothing had been decided and now Duffy has told his close pal has chimed in.

The pair enjoyed a golfing day out on Sunday but Duffy couldn't resist responding on social media to a West Ham looking for an update.

He said: "Wouldn't listen to a word he (Roddy) says, he ain't got a clue", his post was also accompanied with a laughing emoji.

Duffy previously worked with West Ham boss David Moyes when he was coming through the ranks but it's understood Celtic boss Neil Lennon has reached out the central defender about making a switch north of the border.

The Brighton defender has been lauded for his no-nonsense approach for club and country but looks set to move on after Graham Potter splashed out on Ajax defender Joel Veltman.

Duffy is available in a £2m loan deal with Newcastle, Burnley and Leeds also believed to be keen on his services.
