Shane Duffy pays tribute to late father as he marks one year since his death

Shane Duffy has paid a touching tribute to his late father Brian as he marked one year since his passing.

In a heartfelt Twitter message, the Brighton and Republic of Ireland defender says he misses his father everyday.

Brian passed away at the age of 53 last May, with Duffy describing his dad as his 'hero' and 'idol' in an emotional tribute

He said: "One year ago today my whole life changed forever, (It has) been a tough ride without you bigman.

"Miss you everyday, keep looking after us all up there".

Duffy cut short his Celtic stay and returned to parent club Brighton last week.

The 29-year-old joined the Scottish club on a one-year loan deal last summer as Neil Lennon's side went in search of a tenth successive league title.

But the centre-back has struggled to rediscover his best form at Parkhead despite scoring in his opening two matches.

Duffy has also found himself out of favour in recent matches for the Boys in Green as he was left on the bench in crucial World Cup qualifiers against Serbia and Luxembourg.
