Shane Duffy makes Celtic critics vow as he insists he can still be a success

Celtic defender Shane Duffy insists he's still out to prove people wrong and can make a success of his time in Glasgow.

The Republic of Ireland international is confident he can get back to his best and insists he has regularly proven doubters to be wrong throughout his career, and is determined to do so again.

The boyhood Celtic fan has struggled since moving to Glasgow and made a series of high-profile errors.

He lost his place in the team with Neil Lennon opting for a partnership of Stephen Welsh and Kristoffer Ajer before the former's injury allowed Duffy back in at the weekend.

And he's confident he can get back to his best at Celtic Park, having proven people wrong by making a career for himself in the first place.

Duffy was speaking to the Bred A Blue podcast about his time at Everton and opened up on his struggles.

He said: "If you asked me 10 years ago I probably wouldn’t have believed the career I’ve went on and had.

"I’m proud of myself for digging in there, especially when a lot of people doubt you.

"The satisfaction of going to prove people wrong is good so I’m happy, I still feel I have a lot more in me to go and prove people wrong again.

"I’ve had a bit of a sticky patch at the minute which happens a lot of footballers.

"I feel I have the right mentality to get through it and as I said, I want to prove people wrong again and go and kick on again."
