Shane Duffy makes Celtic 10 In A Row pledge as emotional star opens up on Derry boyhood dreams

Beaming Shane Duffy has admitted he didn't need a reason to join boyhood heroes Celtic but the lure of 10 In A Row made a move impossible to resist.

The towering defender has agreed a one-year loan deal from Premier League club Brighton despite serious interest from other clubs in England's elite.

Derry born Duffy grew up a Hoops diehard and the sheer delight of signing for the team he has supported all his life is obvious.

And he admits he's "optimistic" he can be part of something historic in the season ahead.

He told the FAI 's Twitter account: "Obviously, I don't need a reason to go to Celtic but if there is ever a reason it's this year to make history.

"It's something I have been following anyway, hoping they would get the title every year so now to get the chance to be a part of it is a huge honour but there is a lot of hard work to do to get that 10 In A Row.

"I know the fans are optimistic and I am too so we are going to do the hard work and hopefully the reward is at the end."

Duffy has already sampled the Celtic Park atmosphere as a fan and the 28-year-old admits he has always dreamed of stepping out into Paradise as a player.

He said: "I'm delighted obviously. It's taken a little while to get it done but I'm over the moon. It's something I've always dreamed of doing and to get the chance and the club to want me is a special moment for me and I'm really excited to get up there and get going.

"Hopefully I can bring success to the club.

"It's been a long time coming.

"People will know the connection with Derry in Ireland and it's all we knew growing up really.

"I've been lucky enough to go to a few games and experience the atmosphere.

"It's my boyhood club and it's like a dream to play for Celtic.

"I've had all the tops over the years and now getting the chance to go and play for the club that you love is a huge honour."
