Shane Duffy gives Celtic transfer 'priority' amid potential Champions League sticking point

Brighton defender Shane Duffy has reportedly made moving to Celtic this summer his priority, though things could be complicated by the Champions League elimination.

Manager Neil Lennon is looking to reinforce his backline and has confirmed that initial talks have taken place with the rugged stopper.

Celtic are Duffy's preferred choice as he grew up supporting the club in his native Ireland.

West Ham United and West Bromwich Albion are providing competition though and Wednesday's Champions League elimination could impact any potential deal.

Reaching the group stages would have provided Celtic with a financial boost but they will now drop into the Europa League.

According to The Athletic that elimination looks to be a setback in their hopes of landing Duffy.

However, the website also reports that Brighton are keen to help the centre-back get the move he wants.

Duffy is popular with staff and team-mates and while all decisions will also factor in what is best for Brighton, they're keen for the defender to leave on good terms.

There is no place for the Irishman at the Amex, with Ben White poised to follow Lewis Dunk in signing a new deal with the Seagulls.
