Shane Duffy given Celtic goal target as former coach names defender as 'bravest' he's seen

Alan Stubbs reckons Shane Duffy is the bravest defender he's ever seen - and is backing the former "daft lad" to hit double figures for Celtic this season.

The former Hibs boss worked with Duffy during his time with the Everton youth team, and was impressed by the Irishman's commitment.

However, Stubbs admits that Duffy's full-blooded approach sometimes left his heart in his mouth.

He chuckled on Go Radio : “He was a big daft lad! I've got to be careful what I say, but yeah he was a big daft lad.

“He’s one of the bravest I’ve come across.

"Some of the challenges he threw himself in for were just: 'Ok, good on you, but you're going to get yourself hurt'.

"He wouldn't necessarily think, he'd just do it.

"He's gone on and he's done really well for himself. He's a threat.

"Shane will score, me personally (I think), he will be into double figures this year in the Scottish Premiership.

"He's a throwback, he's a threat in both boxes. He sticks his head on everything, he sticks his head where a lot of defenders wouldn't.

"That's more so in his own box, but you'll see him throwing himself at crosses left, right, and centre in the opposition box.

"That's why he scores so many goals, his goal record is very good for a centre-back.

"I think he's a great addition, he'll be great in the dressing room. He's a leader, he's matured a lot on the pitch and I wish him all the best.

"He's grown up a lot since I had him, let's put it that way!"
