Shane Duffy gets rapturous Rangers reception as former Celtic loanee's every touch is cheered

There's not many ex- Celtic players who can expect a warm welcome at Ibrox.

But, however ironically, Shane Duffy is now one of them.

The Brighton defender became the unfortunate symbol of a disastrous season for the Hoops as he endured a miserable stint in Glasgow amidst the collapse of the club's 10 In A Row bid.

He has since returned to the Seagulls but he hasn't stayed out of Glasgow for long.

The Seagulls are in Scotland to kickstart their pre-season preparations and Duffy was in Graham Potter's starting side for the Ibrox friendly.

And it took no time at all for the Rangers fans to indulge in some mischief.

Duffy's every touch was cheered rapturously by the home fans in the opening stages, cheers which were only amplified further when the centre-back wiped out his own team-mate in the middle of the pitch.

Not even the Republic of Ireland international denying Rangers an early opening goal with a goalline clearance could deter the punters in Govan.

Fair play to Duffy, mind you, he appeared to take it all in his stride as he replied to the noise with a laugh and a wave.

The Premiership champions were initially permitted to allow 8,500 fans into the stadium, an allocation that was increased on Friday night following talks with authorities.
