Shane Duffy ex-teammate predicts Celtic move as he pinpoints 'Irish heritage' pull as major draw

Paul Robinson reckons his former teammate Shane Duffy would find the lure of a transfer to Celtic difficult to resist.

The 28-year-old defender has fallen down the pecking order at Brighton as boss Graham Potter prefers ball-players at the back.

Stars Adam Webster, Lewis Dunk and returning loanee Ben White are already ahead in the pecking order with Dutch international Joel Veltman set to arrive from Ajax this season.

Brighton are keen to do business for the £8m-rated star and would also consider a loan move with a £2m fee.

Celtic have opened talks with the south coast club about a deal but it won't be easy.

West Ham, West Brom and Burnley are all interested while the Derry born star is on considerable wages.

But former Blackburn teammate Robinson reckons the romance of a move north could be the clincher in any deal.

He told Football Insider : “I think he’s an excellent defender.

“He’s a good, solid talent and he’s a threat on set-plays.

“I think there’s been a link with Celtic, and with his Irish heritage I think Celtic would be a real big draw for him.

“I played with Shane at Blackburn, and with his background and his family, I think that would be too much of a pull for him to go and play at Celtic.”
