Shane Duffy claims Denmark's 'crap' jibes will make an Ireland victory sweeter

New skipper Shane Duffy claims Denmark's 'crap' jibes would make an Ireland victory and qualification for the Euro 2020 finals even sweeter tonight.

Duffy is well aware of the criticism Danish players and management have dished out over Ireland's style of play over the last two years.

And, with Mick McCarthy's side needing a win at the Aviva Stadium to avoid a play-off series next spring, the Brighton giant is using the insults as some motivation.

"It’s just probably their way of getting at us," Duffy said.

"But we don’t think too much of it. Their comments the last time, saying we’re crap - it will be even better then when we beat them, won’t it?

“We know we're not a crap team. We're a strong team. The team spirit we’ve got here, the things I think they’d wish they could have, obviously.

“At the end of the day the football is the most important thing, but if you’ve got half the team spirit we have, you’d be a much better team.”

Ireland are already guaranteed a place in a play-off semi-final if they lose tomorrow.

But Duffy, 27, insists that hasn't been discussed in camp.

“You don’t want it really, you don’t want to be there," he admitted. "To be honest, there hasn’t been talk all week about the play-offs.

“That’s the confidence in the squad, it’s been great.

“It’s like, ‘when we win’, not ‘if we win’.

“There’s been good confidence - not over-confidence, but confidence that we can go to the Aviva and win".
