Shane Carthy will be fighting for his Dublin place in 2020 after Naomh Mearnog's promotion

Shane Carthy is ready for a Dublin recall after helping Naomh Mearnóg back into Division 1.

25-year-old Carthy's battles with depression have been well publicised in recent times, and his inter-county career has stalled having been a young panelist in 2013 when Jim Gavin's Dublin won their first of their six All-Irelands in seven years.

But Carthy, who won minor and under-21 titles with new manager Dessie Farrell, is hoping exposure in Division 1 next year can help him force his way back into the Dublin reckoning.

“We’re up to Division 1 which is massive for our club," Carthy told the Irish Sun.

“We haven’t been there since 2003 I believe. So yeah, it’s huge and from a personal standpoint it’s great.

"Obviously I have huge aspirations to get back in with Dublin come January and that will hopefully be my platform. I’m doing as much as I can.

"I was with the club up until recently and I’m with the Sigerson now as well.

“I’m doing extra sessions for, you know, if and when the call comes I’m going to make sure that I’m going to be ready.”
