Shamrock Rovers v Derry City: TV channel, kick-off time, team news and all you need to know

It's a huge night in the SEE Airtricity League as back-to-back champions Shamrock Rovers take on Derry City at Tallaght Stadium.

The Hoops will be out for revenge after a very late Jamie McGonigle goal gave the Candystripes a 2-1 win at the Brandywell in February.

That result was one of a number in a great start to the season for Derry, who lead the table by six points not so long ago.

But Rovers have reeled that lead back to a point after Derry recorded successive home draws with Bohemians and St Patrick's Athletic.

Here's all you need to know about tonight's mouth-watering clash:

Venue

The game will take place at Tallaght Stadium in front of a near-capacity crowd. Tickets for the South and Main Stands are sold out but there is some availability in the East Stand.

Kick-off time and how to watch

The tie will kick off at 7:45pm and will be broadcast live on RTE 2 with coverage starting at 7:30pm. The match will also be available to stream on LOI TV.

Team news

Derry are set to be without star man Patrick McEleney after he tweaked a hamstring after coming on as a second-half sub on Monday against St Pats.

Lee Grace and Danny Mandriou weren’t involved in Monday's win over Sligo and Grace remains a doubt although manager Stephen Bradley expects Mandriou to be fit.

What the managers say

Derry boss Ruaidhri Higgins has promised his side will have "a right go" against the champions this evening.

He said: “They’re the back-to-back champions, they’re the best team in the country and they have been for a while.

“It’s a great game for us, a great opportunity to bounce back and no better place to go and have a go than Tallaght - a brilliant venue against a really good club.

“It should suit our players. We’re not going to sit in and try and break on them. We’re going there to try and win the game.”

Meanwhile, Rovers gaffer Stephen Bradley has urged his players to tighten up after conceding a number of soft goals in recent games.

He said: “We pride ourselves on clean sheets and have been annoyed that we’ve conceded goals in the last two games, especially the type of goals that they have been, they have been soft from our point of view.

"So that’s something that we need to get back to basics on, and we need to make sure that we are tuned in defensively against Derry.”
