Shamrock Rovers star Graham Burke parking future plans until after FAI Cup final

Graham Burke will park talk of his long-term future until after Shamrock Rovers’ FAI Cup final clash with Dundalk in early November.

The forward returned to the Hoops this summer on a loan deal from Preston North End that runs until the end of June.

But Rovers could look to complete a permanent move for the Ireland international who they sold to Preston for over €300,0000 in June 2018.

“I just want to enjoy this moment in time and see what happens with my football,” he said. "I'm not really thinking past tomorrow’s game with Sligo

"I just go and play the next game and when it comes to the end of the season I have to make a decision. We'll see what happens."

With the title already beyond them, Rovers turn their focus to the Cup final and places are up for grabs in their remaining league games.

Burke would love to win a trophy with the Hoops and said: "It's massive for any team to get into a cup final.

“But for Rovers, which is such a massive club in this country, you know what it means to them.

"The fans are probably thinking 'why are we not doing this every year?" But since Stephen Bradley came in he has a plan, wants a structure and a style of play.

"That doesn’t happen overnight but when you’re at a club like Rovers, the fans probably expect that.

“To get into the FAI Cup final is just brilliant for this bunch of players and will give us confidence."

Ireland manager Mick McCarthy will be at the Showgrounds tomorrow night to watch Hoops star Jack Byrne.

Byrne made an eye-catching senior debut off the bench in the recent friendly win over Bulgaria at Aviva Stadium.

And he has retained his place in the squad for the vital qualifiers away to Georgia and Switzerland, starting next weekend.
