Shamrock Rovers sign Sean Gannon from Dundalk and Danny Mandroiu from Bohemians

Shamrock Rovers have picked up two stars from rivals with the signings of full-back Sean Gannon from Dundalk and attacker Danny Mandroiu from Bohemians.

Dubliner Gannon, 29, started his League of Ireland career with the Hoops and makes his return after eight trophy-laden years away from Tallaght Stadium.

Ireland Under-21 ace Mandroiu joins Stephen Bradley's side from fierce rivals Bohs following two impressive seasons with The Gypsies.

Gannon follows Lilywhites team-mate Sean Hoare in swapping Oriel Park for the home of the league champions after Rovers secured the centre-back's signature earlier this week.

It is another blow to Dundalk, who had 18 players out of contract at the end of the season and are facing an exodus of big names.

Gannon had wanted a longer contract than the one year extension that was initially offered and newly-crowned league winners Rovers offered an attractive alternative.

The full-back made his Hoops debut in 2011 and made nine league appearances in 2012 before leaving for St Pat's - where he was part of a league-winning side in 2013.

He went on to win five league titles, three FAI Cups and three League Cups during his seven-year Dundalk stint, while also playing a key role in two Europa League campaigns.

Mandroiu follows in the footsteps of current Hoops aces Roberto Lopes and Dylan Watts - who also joined Rovers from cross-town rivals Bohs in recent years. The 22-year-old has seven Ireland Under-21 caps to his name.

Rovers boss Bradley reckons Gannon felt he had 'unfinished business' at the club.

He said: "He felt that he had a bit of unfinished business with Shamrock Rovers.

"He was here as a young lad and went on to be very successful and he wants to bring that successful period with him to ourselves.

"I think part of it was that he started here and he’s delighted to be back.

"You need players that are hungry to win things and Sean, even though he’s won a lot, is still really hungry to go and achieve and add more trophies and medals. That’s very important for us.”

On Mandroiu, Bradley added: “Danny is very creative. He can play with both feet very comfortably.

"He’s big, athletic and an all-round really clever player. He’s a really good age and fits what we do.

"There’s so much more to his game than his goals, there’s so much potential in Danny and it’s up to us and him that we try and get that out of him, to take him to the next level.

"I think he wants to go and do his talking on the pitch now. He’s really keen to get started with us and get working and we’re really looking forward to working with him."
