Shamrock Rovers put through their paces in army bootcamp at Cathal Brugha Barracks

Shamrock Rovers are hard at work in preparation for the new Airtricity League Premier Division - taking on an army bootcamp at Cathal Brugha Barracks.

The Hoops have routinely visited the barracks for a tough pre-season workout in recent years.

Stephen Bradley's charges were put through their paces again today, stepping up preparations with just over three weeks to go until they kick off their campaign against fierce rivals Bohemians.

Bradley has brought in defenders Liam Scales and Rhys Marshall over the close season, while star centre-back Lee Grace penned a three-year deal at Tallaght Stadium.

The Shamrock Rovers boss will hope ex-Glenavon ace Marshall can aid a title challenge after last season's second-place finish.

On Marshall, Bradley said: “Rhys has lots of good attributes. He’s young and hungry and he’s played a lot of games for someone so young.

“He can play in a number of positions – right back, centre back, centre midfield and I’ve seen him play left-back as well. He strengthens us as a team and a squad.”
