Shamrock Rovers lead tributes to 19-year-old fan who tragically died after horror crash

Shamrock Rovers have led tributes to a young fan that was tragically killed yesterday morning.

19-year-old Daragh Lee died after a horror crash in Co. Laois.

The teenager was hit by a van along the N80 at Clonsoghey at around 7:30 am.

He was rushed to Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise where he later passed away from his injuries.

The young man had been in Tallaght Stadium when Shamrock Rovers won the league title on Friday night.

He had celebrated the massive win with his dad and had been an avid fan of the club for many years.

Shamrock Rovers paid tribute to Daragh in a poignant tweet.

They said: "All at Shamrock Rovers F.C. express deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Daragh Lee who was tragically killed on Saturday morning.

"Daragh was only 19 years of age and had been at Tallaght Stadium celebrating the league win in the South Stand with his dad.

"From Mountmellick, Daragh had been following the Hoops since he was a young boy.

"He will be sadly missed by his many friends at the club. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam."

His father Mark paid tribute to the young man online on Saturday.

He said: “Early this morning my world changed forever, my son, Daragh, 19yo, was tragically taken from us, he lit up a room with his smile and I could not have been prouder of him. Taken from me but never forgotten."

Mountmellick GAA club also posted about the local teenager's tragic death.

They said: "We are deeply saddened to hear of the tragic passing of our caretaker Mark Lee's son, Daragh.

"Our thoughts, prayers and deepest sympathies are with Daragh's friends and family during this devastating time.

"Ar dhéis Dé go raibh a anam dílis."

Funeral arrangements are to be announced later.
