Shamrock Rovers confirm no close contacts after staff member tests positive for Covid

SHAMROCK ROVERS have today reported no close contacts among their players after a staff member tested positive for Covid.

The positive case impacted preparation ahead of Friday’s 4-2 win away to Derry City where one of the Rovers underage teams travelled in case of an emergency.

Senior players travelled to Derry by car and the majority all played in the impressive come-from-behind win.

Sean Gannon had to be pulled from the starting team as he was a suspected close contact and Rovers had not received word by kick-off if he could play or not.

But a club statement today read: “Shamrock Rovers can confirm that a member of our backroom staff has tested positive for COVID-19 in recent days.

“Consultations with Public Health and the FAI allowed us to fulfil Friday night’s fixture in Derry subject to all protocols.

“No members of our first team squad and backroom staff who travelled to Derry have been deemed close contacts by Public Health.

“All involved in Friday night’s game have tested negative. The staff member has reported no symptoms and we wish him well with his recovery.”
