Shamrock Rovers announce return of Jack Byrne with teaser video

Jack Byrne has declared 'I'm back' as Shamrock Rovers have announced the second coming of their star midfielder.

The Hoops released a 29-second video this morning confirming the news revealed by the Irish Mirror yesterday, that Ireland international Byrne was returning to the club after a year away.

Byrne, 25, was a major reason why the club claimed the 2020 Premier Division title, his performances earning him the first competitive international cap for a SSE Airtricity League player since 1985.

He moved to Cypriot club APOEL when the season ended but it was a difficult period for the Dubliner, as Mick McCarthy left the club just weeks after signing Byrne and, due to injury, he only played five games for the crisis-hit outfit.

He had offers in the US, from Holland and from closer to home, with the Irish Mirror revealing last week that Bohemians had made contact with Byrne.

However Hoops boss Stephen Bradley had stayed in touch with Byrne and he has signed on the dotted line with his former club.
