Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani said on Sunday that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's “futile” visits to Moscow will not affect the presence of Iranian troops in Syria.
“Regarding the range, destructive power, accuracy, and quick preparation, which are the four main bases of our missile development, we do not consult and obtain permission from anybody,” he told reporters on the sidelines of an event in Tehran.
“Our defense’s needs determine what we do.”
Last week, Netanyahu visited Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow and presented to him maps on Iranian presence in Syria.
Shamkhani once again defended his country’s military presence in Syria, noting that it “comes at the request of the Syrian government,” according to Iranian Mehr news agency.
The Syrian army, the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), Ansar Allah and Iranian fighters have proved that the West is not the center of the world, Shamkhani stressed, adding that US power would collapse.
In this context, Shamkhani pointed to the outbreak of war 40 years ago between two fronts: “One wants stability” and the other seeks “instability.”
“Those who create instability have only been defeated, and this is quite clear in our oil-rich region.”
“Iranian forces headed to Syria at the request of the Syrian government, and they settled there to achieve stability and support Syrians,” Shamkhani added.
