'Shameful!' Chris Sutton slaughters Kilmarnock over Europa League humiliation

Chris Sutton has slammed Kilmarnock after the Ayrshiremen were embarrassed 2-0 by Welsh minnow Connah's Quay Nomads.

Angelo Alessio 's side surrendered a 2-1 first leg lead at home to the part-timers to crash out of the Europa League at the first qualifying round stage.

It was a horror return to European football after an absence of 18 years and left the Killie support - many of whom had already booked up for the second qualifying round trip to Partizan Belgrade - furious.

Connah's Quay, who required a penalty shoot out to beat League Two Edinburgh City in the Challenge Cup last season, will now take on Belgrade.

And that's a situation Sutton has branded "shameful".

The former Celtic striker and Record Sport columnist blasted: "Shameful result for Kilmarnock last night losing to a Welsh League team.

"That’s pretty low..."

Meanwhile, Connah's Quay's Scottish boss Andy Morrison reckons his side have pulled off a feat comparable to Liverpool overturning a 3-0 deficit against Barcelona in last year's Champions League.

He said: "This is one of the greatest results in Welsh Premier League history.

"It's all relative. Liverpool beat Barcelona 4-0 and people said that was remarkable but that was on a par with it as the gulf between the teams is huge."

And Nomads striker Jamie Insall wasted no time in trolling Killie - and Queen's Park - as he took to Twitter.

Insall tweeted a pic of his celebrations with the words: "Not bad for a pub team".

It comes after Queen's Park boss Mark Roberts said he hoped Killie would put ten goals past the Welshmen who sent his side tumbling out of the Challenge Cup last season.
