Shamed Tory Chris Pincher pops up with review of £245 men's fragrance

Shamed former Tory whip Chris Pincher has returned to the public eye by penning a magazine review of a posh men's fragrance.

The Tamworth Tory MP quit his role in the whips’ office last June after he was accused of drunkenly groping two men at a private members’ club.

Mr Pincher admitted he “drank far too much” and “embarrassed myself.”

And he remains under investigation by Parliament’s standards watchdog, who are probing whether he “caused significant damage” to the reputation of the House of Commons.

He’s not appeared in Parliament since the scandal.

But he still charges the taxpayer £1,540 per month in rent payments.

But Commons records reveal he pocketed £200 to pen a review of high-end Creed fragrances for The Critic magazine.

He wrote that the posh cologne "introduces its wearer tastefully and without ostentation", and "carried me off to the people and places of my imagination."

A 100ml bottle of Mr Pincher's favourite Green Irish Tweed scent costs £245.

For his £200 article fee, he would only be able to get a 50ml taster bottle, coming in at a more affordable £185.

The scandal surrounding Mr Pincher’s behaviour became the fatal blow for Boris Johnson ’s leadership, after he had repeatedly claimed he was not aware of “any allegations” before promoting him in February 2022.

It later emerged an official complaint had been raised earlier, and that Mr Johnson was directly informed at the time.

Mr Pincher’s columns for the Critic magazine were previously on the subject of alcohol, but this changed last December, when they changed to more general topics.

Other columns published by the magazine by Mr Pincher include a guide to finding perfectly fitting top hats, and a review of the Gleneagles hotel.
