Shamed pupil sex teacher scraps charity firm she set up after conviction

A shamed teacher struck off for her affair with a pupil is scrapping the business she created to make a fresh start.

Eppie Sprung, who was caught half-naked with Matthew Robinson, 17, set up Here for Growth two years ago to help charities and businesses.

She said she was inspired to set up the not-for-profit venture after facing barriers due to her conviction.

Now Sprung, 34, has signed a voluntary application to strike her firm off the register at Companies House.

A source said the firm had “struggled” and its directors – including a church minister – had decided to wind it up due to a lack of business “exacerbated by the pandemic”.

English teacher Sprung had a relationship with Matthew after offering him extra help with lessons at St Joseph’s College in Dumfries.

She was caught with him in a lay-by by police following a school dance in 2012.

The fling cost Sprung her job of four years, ended her two-year marriage to lecturer husband Ranald Dawson and she was rueld unfit to teach.

Sprung avoided jail after admitting the breach of trust in court in 2013. She was handed a six-month community payback order which involved a compulsory course of psychosexual counselling.

She lived with Matthew until 2015 when they split up.

Here for Growth was formed to help disadvantaged people, such as those with convictions.

Sprung delined to comment when we contacted her.
