Shamed Asan N’jie lands first role since Emmerdale axe for threatening to “knife” Hollyoaks star

Shamed Emmerdale actor Asan N’jie has landed his first role since being axed from the soap for threatening to “knife” Hollyoaks star Jamie Lomas at an awards ceremony.

N’jie will appear in BBC1 crime thriller Bloodlands, which is spearheaded by Line of Duty writer Jed Mercurio.

Confirming his new role, the 25-year-old said he is “really looking forward to the next project” and will be “working with some amazing actors”.

They include Cold Feet star James Nesbitt, who plays a Northern Irish detective hunting an assassin. James, 54, has described the upcoming series as “exciting and psychologically complex”.

N’jie was sacked from ITV’s Emmerdale four months ago after the Mirror revealed shocking video footage of him shouting at Kym Marsh’s ex-husband Jamie: “I’m going to f**king kill you. I’m going to f**king knife you.”

It was recorded at the TV Choice Awards in September, where N’jie was nominated
in the Best Newcomer category for a storyline in which his character Ellis was stabbed.

He had described knife crime as a “sensitive issue” while discussing the plot.

After the incident, in which he swore and threw punches at Jamie, N’jie was removed from the event and then fired from the show the next day.

He apologised, saying: “My behaviour at the TV Choice Awards was completely unacceptable and very much out of character.

"I am devastated, accept full responsibility and am determined to learn from this.”
