Zach Clough still has a year left to run on his contract at Nottingham Forest - but currently finds himself well out of the first-team picture.
Clough has not featured for the Reds since January 2018, spending time on out loan at former club Bolton Wanderers and Rochdale.
The 25-year-old has admitted he could not see a way back into he first-team plans at Forest after returning from his loan stint with Bolton at the end of the 2017-18 season.
“When I signed there, there was completely different ownership at the top of the club," he told the Lion of Vienna Suite podcast.
"Fawaz (Al Hasawi) was the owner at the time when I signed and then three months later, the Greek owners came in.
“Everything was fine, maybe until I made the decision to come back to Bolton. I feel as if that was the turning point really.
“I don’t think there was any way back at Forest once I went back in the summer.”
