Manchester United fans were in no mood to show any sympathy towards Arsenal following the postponement of the North London derby.
Sunday’s game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was called off after the Gunners submitted a request to the Premier League due to having a number of first-team players unavailable through Covid-19, injuries and suspensions, as well as a few away on international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations.
The decision to postpone the game was confirmed on Saturday, with both clubs releasing statements following the Premier League’s decision.
The decision to postpone the game will have an effect on the race for the top four, with United facing a crucial game this evening against Aston Villa as they look to make up some ground.
And fans on Twitter were merciless as they mocked the Gunners following the announcement of tomorrow’s derby being shelved.
Sky Sports pundits Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher both called out Premier League clubs on Friday for postponing games, believing Covid was being used as a way to avoid fielding weaker sides.
"I honestly believe all teams, not just in the Premier League but in the EFL, must be made to play their fixtures. [Florian] Balogun's gone on loan, [Ainsley] Maitland-Niles has gone on loan, [Granit] Xhaka's got a red card — that's not the fault of anyone else, we can't be calling matches off,” Neville said.
Carragher added: "Everyone is in the same boat, if it's an outbreak of Covid and decimated the squad I understand but players in the AFCON tournament, normal injuries, that's got nothing to do with it.
"You've got U23s squads, younger players this may be an opportunity where they get a chance. I know there's a lot riding on Premier League games, I understand that but at this moment, I think teams are taking advantage of the situation."
