Shakib Al Hasan stars as Bangladesh complete second-highest World Cup run chase to demolish West Indies

Bangladesh successfully completed the second-highest run chase in Cricket World Cup history with 51 balls to spare to thrash the West Indies in stunning fashion.

Shakib Al Hasan - now the highest run-scorer at the 2019 tournament - was 124 not out and produced an unbroken fourth-wicket stand of 189 with Liton Das (94*) as the Tigers chased down a target of 322 in 41.3 overs in Taunton, losing only three wickets in the process.

Such a chase narrowly beats their own effort against Scotland in Nelson, New Zealand back in 2015.

Ireland's victory over England in Bangalore, India in 2011 - when the Irish chased down 329 - remains the benchmark.

Bangladesh's second victory in five matches lifts them up to fifth in the World Cup standings, while a third defeat drops the West Indies down to seventh.

Jason Holder's side had earlier reached 321/8 in Somerset after losing the toss and being put into bat, with Shai Hope hitting 96 and Evin Lewis notching 70 to go with a half-century from Shimron Hetmyer.

Mustafizur Rahman and Mohammad Saifuddin each claimed three wickets apiece for Bangladesh, with the latter's haul including the key early dismissal of Chris Gayle, who was out for a 13-ball duck.
