Shakespears Sister are back together for a singles album and tour for 2019 - including Nottingham

Shakespears Sister will kick off their reunion tour in Nottingham.

The duo have announced they are back together for the first time in 26 years and as well as a UK tour, they'll be releasing a Singles Party collection.

Siobhan Fahey, who got back together with her former Bananarama band mates in 2017, formed Shakespears Sister with US singer Marcella Detroit in 1988 and they enjoyed Top 10 success with their debut album, Sacred Heart, a year later. It spawned the band’s first single, You’re History, which also went top ten.

Even greater success followed with a second album, Hormonally Yours, in 1992. Among its hit singles were I Don’t Care, Hello (Turn Your Radio On) and Stay, which remained at No. 1 for eight weeks. A Brit Award, an Ivor Novello and a headline slot at Glastonbury in 1992 followed. They also supported Prince at Celtic Park at his request.

"There was no stopping this," said Detroit of the reunion which will kick of with a new single, All The Queen's Horses, on May 15.

"It was like this snowball that just kept on gathering more and more speed. I think we've come to a point where we respect and understand each other more than we ever could have back then. That’s the simplest way to put it. We've come to a mutual understanding of and respect for who each other are. It’s just about acceptance - acceptance of who we both are, for each other and to each other.”

Said Fahy: "I realised what a perfect writing partner she is for me…there’s some sort of weird fusion of energies that feels fated. It's like this third entity exists that is neither me nor her, it's the two of us.”

An album, Singles Party, featuring all their releases plus two new songs, All The Queen's Horses and C U Next Tuesday, will be out July 19.

The Shakespears Sister Ride Again tour will open at the Royal Concert Hall in Nottingham on October 31.

Tickets go on sale at 9am on Friday, May 10 here.
