Shakespears Sister reunite after more than 25 years and announce show at Sage Gateshead

Does the line "you better hope and pray that you wake one day in your world..." ring any bells for you? It should do if you're of a certain age as its lyrics from one of the 90s biggest number 1s.

And the act responsible for it - Shakespears Sister - have confirmed they are reuniting and heading out on tour.

Shakespears Sister’s debut album, 1989’s Sacred Heart was a top ten record and spawned the band’s first hit single, Youre History’, which also went top ten.

Even greater success followed with a second album Hormonally Yours, in 1992. Amongst its hit singles I Don’t Care, Hello (Turn Your Radio On) and of course Stay, which remained at number one for eight weeks.

The triumphs and accolades piled up: over a million albums sold, a Brit award for best video for Stay and an Ivor Novello award for Outstanding Collection of Songs for Hormonally Yours.

The pair went onto headline the Pyramid stage at Glastonbury in 1992 and supported Prince at Celtic Park at Prince’s personal request.

The reunion sees band members Siobhan Fahey and Marcella Detroit back together for the first time since 1993.

Ex-Banarama member Siobhan continued Shakespears Sister as a solo artist until 1996, before reviving it once again in 2009.

The reunion was teased when Marcella uploaded a picture to her and Siobhan to Instagram last year captioned "After 25 years, we finally get to meet up and talk. You never know what can happen!!".
