Shaken Edinburgh mum has £25k BMW stolen in terrifying home raid as family slept

An Edinburgh mum has been left “devastated” after her £25,000 White BMW and other belongings were stolen in the early hours of Friday morning.

Kirstin Strachan and her husband awoke to find their backdoor smashed open and personal belongings gone in what they believe to be a targeted break in for their car.

At around 4am brazen thieves broke into the Longstone property by hacking the lock off the door before stealing the 40-year-old’s purse, earpods and car keys.

Speaking today she said, “It was just me and my husband and the dogs at home.

“They broke in and took many of our personal belongings before taking my car keys from my leather jacket on the back of the couch.

“We didn’t hear much as it was a professional job and apparently there have been quite a few recently.

“The crime scene people came this morning and the car has been spotted on CCTV in Niddrie.

“It’s horrible knowing they have been in your home, it’s absolutely disgusting and a total invasion of privacy.

“I’m just glad everyone is okay and the dogs are okay. We have to wait two weeks to see if the car is recovered and if not another two weeks for a new one.

“So we will be without a car for a month.”

The business director took to Facebook this morning to ask neighbours for any CCTV footage.

Many concerned neighbours left well wishes for the couple.

Sharon Flockhart said: “Oh my gosh, I actually drove by yours about 4.30. Quite a few buses and taxis around actually so hopefully something will have been picked up.

“I’m really sorry to hear this. How awful. I hope you're ok apart from being obviously shocked.”

Evelyn Maccormick exclaimed: “Omg Kirstin that's bloody awful . Hopefully they will catch the s****.”

While Paul Rendall added: “Hope you’re ok mate. Absolute scum.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers are investigating following a housebreaking and theft which happened at a property on Longstone Road in Edinburgh during the early hours of Friday, 1 October, 2021.

"A number of personal items were taken, along with a white BMW car.

"Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information should contact officers via 101 and quote incident number 0429 of 1 October 2021. An anonymous report can be made to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
