Shaken college student harassed in Dublin nightclub by 'middle aged man pretending to be bouncer'

A Dublin bar has been forced to apologise to a woman after she was allegedly harassed by a man posing as a bouncer on her way in the door.

The college student said she and her friend were both approached by the man, who she described as 'middle aged', outside well-known north city centre pub and nightclub Wigwam.

The pair were so upset by the man that they told the barman about it once they were safely inside.

To their shock, they were told that there were no door staff working that night.

According to the woman, the barman then went to the door and told the man and his friend to leave.

She tweeted: "Last night I went to Wigwam got ID’d on the way in didn’t think anything of it.

"My mate got the same but there was this guy harassing her as she came in the door.

"This was really upsetting so she said it to the bartender & he was like we don’t have anyone at the door tonight so he went out to speak to them and kicked them out."

Describing the incident as "f**king insane" she continued: "So basically there were MEN. GROWN MIDDLE AGED MEN out with one dressed as a bouncer SOLEY to take advantage of women."

The bar quickly responded to her tweet to apologise and confirm that the men were not staff.

They replied: "Very sorry to hear this.

They were definitely not our staff, and we are going to take a couple of steps immediately to make sure it doesn't happen again.

"We try to make Wigwam as comfortable & inclusive for everyone, so this is something we will be taking very seriously."

A spokesman for the bar told Dublin Live: "It wasn't one of our staff and nothing like this has ever been brought to our attention before, but obviously we're treating it very seriously.

"We do have staff on the door on busier nights and there's usually someone patrolling the door regularly so it's unfortunate that this happened.

"We certainly hope it wasn't anything more sinister than simply a drunk person causing trouble, but we will be stepping up our patrols and doing our best to ensure this doesn't happen again."
