Shailene Woodley Has An ~ Illicit Affair ~ In Netflix’s New Drama That Will Probs Make Me Cry

What is this?? A romantic drama with an all-star cast?? And it’s based on a book by Jojo Moyes?? So it’s probably going to make me ugly cry on a Friday night?? Add it to the bloody list.

The Last Letter From Your Lover is a pair of interwoven stories set in the past and present.

It follows Ellie Haworth (Felicity Jones), an ambitious journo who discovers a slew of secret love letters from 1965 and makes it her mission to find out what became of the forbidden love affair.

Through the letters and her research, she discovers the story behind Jennifer Stirling (Shailene Woodley), the wife of a wealthy industrialist, and Anthony O’Hare (Callum Turner) the financial journo assigned to write about her husband.

Naturally, they fall in love. Drama follows.

And while Ellie’s finding out everything she can about the pair, she starts to fall for an endearing archivist (Nabhaan Rizwan) who helps her track down more letters.

The film is based on Moyes’ novel of the same name and is directed by Augustine Frizzell of Never Goin’ Back.

Oh, and guess who plays the wealthy industrialist!? Joe AlwynTaylor Swift‘s boyfriend. If ‘Illicit Affairs’ isn’t in this, that’s just a missed opportunity. At the very least, let it be the song that plays during the end credits.

The Last Letter From Your Lover hits Netflix, July 23.

Set a reminder for it on your Netflix account, right here. I mean, I absolutely have.

I have very little experience with Moyes’ other works and by ‘little’ I really just mean the adaptation of Me Before You, starring Emilia Clarke and Sam Claflin. It was okay, but, well – if The Last Letter From Your Lover is going for the same tone, then you better stock up on the tissues.

Do I really need to watch a bunch of attractive people cry for an hour and a bit?

No (yes).
