Shai Gilgeous-Alexander wins December Western Conference Player of the Month award

The NBA announced on Thursday that Oklahoma City Thunder’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander won December’s Western Conference Player of the Month award.

This is the first time Gilgeous-Alexander has won the honor. He was previously nominated for last month’s October/November award.

The 25-year-old is one of the best players in the league and has led the Thunder to a 23-10 start and second place in the Western Conference standings.

In 32 games, Gilgeous-Alexander is averaging 31.4 points on 54.6% shooting, 6.4 assists and 5.9 rebounds. He also leads the leagues in steals at 2.5 per game.

During December, Gilgeous-Alexander averaged 31.9 points, 6.6 assists and 3.1 steals while leading OKC to a 10-3 record.

This news comes on the same day it was announced that Gilgeous-Alexander was third in the first batch of 2024 All-Star fan voting for West guards. Only Luka Doncic and Stephen Curry are ahead of him.

Gilgeous-Alexander is on track to make his second consecutive All-Star appearance this season.

The Thunder were also recipients of the Western Conference Rookie of the Month award in December as Chet Holmgren was announced as the winner. He also garnered the ninth-most fan votes for All-Star starters among West frontcourt players.

This marks just the sixth time in NBA history for a team to win both Rookie of the Month and Player of the Month in the same month, per the Thunder.
