Shai Gilgeous-Alexander nominated for Player of the Week

After dominating the Brooklyn Nets and helping the Oklahoma City Thunder win three straight games, guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was nominated for the NBA Western Conference Player of the Week award.

The Thunder played four games over the week of Jan. 4-10, going 3-1 during the seven-day period.

Gilgeous-Alexander averaged 23.8, 6.8 assists, 5.8 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game while shooting 54.8% from the field and 45% from deep.

He accounted for nine points over the final two minutes of the one-point win over the New Orleans Pelicans, assisting an Al Horford 3-pointer and then scoring six points to keep the Thunder in.

Against the New York Knicks, Gilgeous-Alexander put up a 25-point, 10-rebound double-double and also had seven assists.

On Sunday against the Nets, Gilgeous-Alexander scored a season-high 31 points.

Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic ended up winning the conference’s Player of the Week award. He averaged 30.3 points, 12.0 rebounds and 11.3 assists over a 3-0 stretch for the Mavs.

The other nominees in the West were San Antonio Spurs guard DeMar DeRozan, Los Angeles Lakers wing LeBron James, Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic and Portland Trail Blazers guard CJ McCollum.

Boston Celtics wing Jayson Tatum was named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week. He averaged 33.0 points and 5.3 boards while knocking down 52% of his 3-pointers. The Celtics went 3-0 during the week.
